Overview
The Chat Search feature allows you to quickly find any term or word within the messages of a conversation. It works similarly to the browser's "Ctrl+F", but optimized for the Livechat environment.
How to Open Search
You have two ways to open the search bar:
Keyboard Shortcut (Recommended)
Windows/Linux: Press
Ctrl + FMac: Press
Cmd + F
Header Button
Click the magnifying glass icon 🔍 located in the chat header, next to the more options button.
How to Search
Type the term you want to find in the search field.
Wait a moment — the search runs automatically.
The results will be highlighted:
Yellow: All occurrences found.
Orange: The currently selected result.
The counter in the right corner shows your current position (e.g., 3/10 means you are on the 3rd result out of 10 found).
Navigating Between Results
After performing a search, you can navigate between the found results:
| Action | How to do it |
|---|---|
| Go to the next result | Press Enter or click the ↑ arrow |
| Go to the previous result | Press Shift + Enter or click the ↓ arrow |
Tip: The navigation is circular — when you reach the last result and move forward, you loop back to the first one.
Searching in Previous Chats
If the term you are looking for is not in the current chat, you can expand the search to previous chats from the same contact:
Perform a search normally.
If there is a history with this contact, the indication "Previous chat available" will appear on the right side of the search bar.
Click 🔍 Search more results next to this message to load the immediately preceding chat.
The results will automatically update, including the messages from this previous chat in your search (if you need to search in even older conversations, simply repeat this step).
Note: The scroll position is maintained so you don't lose the context of the current conversation.
Closing the Search
To close the search bar:
Or click the X button on the search bar.
When closed, all highlights are automatically removed.
Shortcuts Summary
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
Ctrl+F / Cmd+F | Open search |
Enter | Next result |
Shift + Enter | Previous result |
Frequently Asked Questions
The search is not appearing. What should I do?
The search feature might be disabled for your account. Please contact your system administrator to check if the feature is enabled.
Can I search all conversations at once?
No. The search works only within the current chat and, optionally, in previous chats from the same contact. For broader searches, use the filters in the conversation list.
Is the search case-sensitive?
No. The search is case-insensitive, meaning "Reservation", "reservation", and "RESERVATION" will return the same results.
Why are some terms not found?
The search only looks at the visible text of the messages. Content within images, attached files, or system messages may not be searchable.
